Basic Sailing Certificate

Spend a couple of days getting a sailing certificate while you are visiting Santurtzi.

The Basic Sailing Certificate [Licencia de Navegación] is a qualification for people who intend to take short sailing trips by day, always within sight of the coast.

It is easy to obtain and does not involve a theory exam.

Extent

The Basic Sailing Certificate licenses you to sail motorised leisure boats up to 6 m in length, with engines powered according to their size, provided that you sail only by day and no more than 2 miles from shore.


The same certificate licenses you to drive jet-skis up to 55 HP.

Requirements

To obtain this certificate you do not need any previous qualifications or licences. You must be at least 16 years old and must obtain a medical certificate. You must also:

  • Complete a 2-hour theory course.
  • Complete a 4-hour practical basic safety and sailing exercise.
