Take a walk through Santurtzi and the Puente Bizkaia transporter bridge 

The tour begins at the famous PUENTE BIZKAIA transporter bridge, known popularly as the Puente Colgante or “hanging bridge”. It is a UNESCO world heritage site, and one of only 8 such bridges anywhere in the world. Take the lift up to 50 m above the river to see the pedestrian walkway and look down on the sails of the passing boats.  

The tour continues on the promenade on the other bank of the river in Santurtzi, with a look at the town’s seafaring past and a chance to sample the fish that the town is famous for: the fantastic sardines! You can hear about the time when Santurtzi was a major inshore fishing port, and the fishwives who sold sardines in the streets were celebrated in song. 

See the beautiful views over the El Abra Bay and the open-air sculpture museum. Don’t miss the FISHING PORT and the Reina Victoria Promenade, where the town’s seafaring past is plain to see. Visit a fishing boat drawn up on shore: the AGURTZA MUSEUM BOAT; and discover stories of pirates and buccaneers, fishwives and others whose livelihood came from the sea at the Interpretation Centre in the SANTURTZI MUSEUM OF THE SEA.

The tour ends in typical Basque fashion with drinks and bar snacks (pintxo- pote), which are included in the experience. THE PINTXO is the ultimate bar snack: a bite-sized aperitif. 

This gives you the chance to blend seamlessly into the local customs and way of life as you get to know the old part of town with its wealth of traditional pintxos and learn about their origins and other curious details.
